Keeping his eye firmly on the time, Tom made headway along the M6. The traffic had been shit so far and they were slightly behind schedule. If Potter had got into gear quicker this morning, they wouldn’t have been ten minutes late leaving in the first place.

He pulled his eyes from the road to scowl at Potter. He’d made it crystal clear what time they’d needed to be on the road, but Potter wouldn’t leave the flat until he’d finished his predictable morning chat with a corpse. Like there was time for that bullshit today of all days.

Stupid bastard.

Then when Tom had finally wrenched Potter from the flat, the dozy twat had gone back in four fucking times, saying he’d forgotten this or forgotten that…

For God’s sake!

Tom smiled to himself despite his irritation because last night had been the very last time he’d be lumbered being under the same roof as that mad fool.

His own stuff was safely stashed in the back of the van. There was no way he was coming back to that flat in Telford. There was no need.

Seeing the slip road at the last minute, Tom cut across all three motorway lanes, amidst much blaring of horns and rude hand gestures which he had no problem ignoring. The rest of the traffic could have a pile-up, but he was not missing the exit for anyone.

‘What the fuck are you doing?’ Potter yelped, the sudden veering of the van causing his head to bounce off the passenger seat window.

‘Driving! What does it bloody look like?’ Tom spat, thinking if Potter wasn’t so invested getting the wrapper off his fourth Twix bar of the journey, then he’d be aware of what was going on.

Taking the first exit off the roundabout, Tom headed down the B4065 towards Anstey. This way, rather than the bypass, was the least likely route to bump into anyone else heading to the venue for the wedding of the year.

Wedding of the year, my arse, Tom thought, his thin mouth twisting into a sneer. It was a fucking joke.

But soon the lives of all the people he hated would be utterly shattered. Including, with any luck, Potter’s.

‘Not long to go now,’ he remarked, doubting whether Potter was even listening, but talking out loud drowned out a percentage of the hideous noise of Potter slurping on his Twix bar.

God, he hated people who ate with their mouths open.

Realistically, he’d hate Potter whatever he did, but soon he’d never have to see the bastard again.

Ha ha ha! Hallelujah!

‘I’m getting excited now,’ Potter said suddenly, making Tom jump. ‘I hope we don’t have to wait long.’

So do I, Tom thought. ‘The ceremony should be underway by now, so with any luck, it will just be a few hours.’

‘I think it will be longer than a few hours,’ Potter grumbled. ‘Good job I have a brain as well as the foresight to think of this.’

Tom pushed away the plastic thing Potter waved in his face. ‘I can’t see where I’m going!’ he roared, glaring at the opaque strangely shaped thing Potter clutched in his hand.
